The Tripolia Bazaar, Jaipur is situated between the Manak Chowk and Chhoti Chaupar. A main tourist shopping spot, the bazaar is famous for ironware, brassware and carpets. However there are also shops selling utensils, rugs, textiles, furniture, trinkets and range of other items. The Maniharon ka Rasta in Tripolia Bazaar, Jaipur is well known for its collection of lac bangles. Lac bangles, bracelets and other such jewelry are produced only in Jaipur and some surrounding areas, and normally won't be found at any other place. Lac is the hardened resin secreted by tiny lac bugs. Though lac products were first known to be manufactured in Kashmir, Jaipur is the main hub of lac products. Tripolia Bazaar, Jaipur is also famous for its colorful and elegant carpets. Jaipur, known for its carpets from the early days of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh 2 in mid 19th century uses human figures, landscapes, flora, fauna and geometric designs. The durries which come as distant relatives of carpets are also becoming popular at Tripolia Bazaar. They were primarily conceived to act as rugs and lacked the color and design of carpets. Nowadays they are fast replacing carpets. Tripolia Bazaar, Jaipur remains closed on Sundays. Tourists can commute to the markets on buses or can take taxis, autos or rickshaws. Be prepared for a lot of navigating through loud crowds and a lot more haggling on prices. But then again these are the main characters of a bazaar and without these half the charm will be lost. |
